Ansel Elgort and Lily James give us a driving lesson

The fast-paced, high-octane thriller Baby Driver became an instant hit when it was released back in July.

It follows Baby (Ansel Elgort) a getaway driver for a bank robbery ring led by mastermind Doc (Kevin Spacey). Once Baby meets waitress Debora (Lily James) at a local diner, he's keen to get out of the dangerous gig - but Doc has other plans.

Be caught up with stars Ansel and Lily when they were in town to promote the film. Check out our interview in the video above.

Being a “mature-age learner driver”, Be’s Josie was keen to get some expert tips from Ansel, who even did stunt driving for a couple of scenes in the film.

“You sort of have to assume that everyone around you is an idiot,” the 23-year-old points out during our chat. “Stay in control. Take your time. People worry about changing lanes or whatever. But take your time.”

“My dad always taught me to be [looking] two cars ahead of you,” Lily adds helpfully. Thanks, guys!

Back onto the film itself, which is out on DVD and Blu-ray now, Lily, 28, recalls how she became hooked the first time she read director-writer Edgar Wright’s script.

“The script came with an app where you listen to the music at the same time, the soundtrack, which was insane,” she told Be of the film, which also stars Kevin Spacey, Jon Hamm and Jamie Foxx.

“And then when you saw the cast list and the fact that it’s Edgar Wright, and the costumes – I looked around and was like ‘this is seriously cool, and this could be really iconic.’”

Even if you saw it at the movies, Ansel recommends picking up the DVD or Blu-ray for a re-watch.

“I’ve seen it six times and I’m still picking up details,” he says of Wright’s signature style of including “Easter eggs” and inside jokes for people to find in his films.
