Princess Mary rushes kids to hospital to visit their grandad
Princess Mary has brought her eldest children in to visit their grandfather in hospital, as it’s reported that Prince Henrik’s condition has deteriorated.
The 46-year-old Tasmanian-born princess was pictured arriving at the hospital with Prince Christian and Princess Isabella and their father, Prince Frederik.
It comes after it was revealed over the weekend that Prince Frederik dashed home from South Korea, where he was attending the Winter Olympics, to be by his father’s bedside.
The prince’s 83-year-old father has been in-and-out of hospital for the past few years, however last month he was diagnosed with pneumonia on a trip to Egypt.
Last week, it was then revealed that Prince Henrik, the husband of Queen Margrethe, has a benign tumour in his lung and an infection.
Speaking to Danish site BT, royal expert Lars Hovbakke Sørensen said it’s not a good sign that Princess Mary is bringing her kids in to the hospital.
"It's a sign that it's serious,” Lars said,
“The Queen has been there, but has returned home - but it's also unusual because Prince Henrik has been in the hospital before, where the queen has not visited him very much."
It comes just months after it was revealed that Prince Henrik, who is the father of Princess Mary’s husband, Prince Frederik, was diagnosed with dementia.
A statement released by the Danish royal family announced the 83-year-old’s condition.
“Following a longer diagnostic process and lately a series of examinations during late summer, a specialist team ... has now concluded that his Royal Highness Prince Henrik suffers from dementia,” it said.
“The extent of the cognitive failure is ... greater than expected considering the age of The Prince.”
