Don't try this at home: wasabi zit cream

Eating wasabi can cause a whole world of pain, so imagine what it could do when placed directly on a pimple.

Beauty blogger Farah Dhukai dared to go where none of us have even imagined to go, posting an Instagram tutorial showing her using the nasal-burning green paste as pimple cream.

“No more acne, no big monstrous pimples, no clusters of pimples - just smooth pimple free skin!” Farah writes. “Apply the wasabi with a qtip to a cleansed face‼ USE AS A SPOT TREATMENT ONLY to your whiteheads and leave on for NO MORE THAN 2 MINS - DO NOT apply this on your entire face.”

Farah then advises her followers to wash their face after without a cleanser and the whitehead should be gone.

“This does sting,” she warns. “If you have extremely sensitive skin then wipe off after 20-30 seconds.”

Farah claims that the pimple busting powers are due to wasabi being packed with “vitamin C, calcium, potassium and phytochemicals that can help strengthen antioxidants in your body”.

However experts aren’t so sold on the controversial beauty treatment.

New York dermatologist Jeannette Graf tells Refinery29 she wouldn’t recommend this due to its harsh effects on the skin.

“Application [of wasabi] to a pimple can create itching, burning, and irritation,” she explains. “There are so many good over-the-counter spot treatments that make more sense.”

Clearly the treatment has struck a chord with some, with Farah’s video watched 3.2 million times, but if you are planning to try this out, be careful!
