Miss Great Britain stripped of title after sex on Love Island

Miss Great Britain winner, Zara Holland, has been stripped of her crown after having sex on reality TV show Love Island.

In a statement released by the beauty pageant organisers, it was revealed that the decision was made with “deep regret”.

“We pride ourselves on promoting the positivity of pageants in modern society and this includes the promotion of a strong, positive female role model in our winners,” they said.

“The feedback we have received from pageant insiders and members of the general public is such that we cannot promote Zara as a positive role model moving forward.

“We wholly understand that everyone makes mistakes, but Zara, as an ambassador for Miss Great Britain, simply did not uphold the responsibility expected of the title.”

Following their statement, organisers took to Twitter to post, “To be clear we have no problem at all with sex – it perfectly natural. We simply can’t condone what happened on national tv (sic).”

On Wednesday last week, 20-year-old Holland and Love Island co-star Alex Bowen, 24, were seen in bed together. Although no explicit scenes were shown, it was readily apparent that they’d been intimate together.

A spokesman for the program reveals that Holland has been informed about the decision but has chosen to stay on the show.

Holland will be replaced by runner-up Deone Robertson, who will now compete in the Miss World competition.
