Margot Robbie takes Carrie Bickmore home to meet the family

Gold Coast local turned Hollywood golden girl, Margot Robbie let Carrie Bickmore into her Queensland home to meet her mum and brother on The Project.

The 26-year-old talked about acting in Suicide Squad, her "weird" Vanity Fair interview and told her mum what would bring her back to Australia forever.

Despite being a Hollywood A-Lister Margot admitted to Carrie that she still lives in a share house in London, but said that it has downsized from seven to four people.

"It feels very mature now," she said.

When Carrie asked where Margot keeps all of her "junk", the actress admitted it was at her mum's and in London.

"Mum only let's me keep one box in the garage, the rest I had to chuck out," she tells Carrie with a chuckle.

It's clear that Margot is very close with her family and her mum admits that she misses her daughter and loves it when the kids are home.

Margot revealed that she would move back to Australia when she has kids, and her partner Tom Ackerley loves Australia so it should be fine with him too.

"He loves Australia," she told the TV host, "he says, 'I don't know why anyone leaves Australia'."

Margot's mum says Tom is "delightful." But Margot admits the family do "give him hell about being a pommie."

Margot spoke about 'that' Vanity Fair interview and about how she was just as surprised as the rest of Australia about it. However she didn't think it would receive the reaction it did.

"I remember doing the interview...and being like, 'that one was an odd one...a really odd interview, I don't know how that's going to come out'," she told The Project host.

The slightly odd article about Australia and Margot caused an uproar, and Margot admits she felt a bit of homeland pride.

"I thought 'don't mess with the Aussies, don't you mess with the Aussies, look what happens when you mess with Australia," she said on the show.

Margot has been rising up in Hollywood since her 2013 role in The Wolf of Wall Street. Last year she starred in Z for Zachariah and The Legend of Tarzan, but it's her upcoming role that has really made her star shine the brightest. Margot plays Harley Quinn in the soon-to-be-released Suicide Squad.

While starring alongside fellow Aussie Jai Courtney, the actress told Carrie that sometimes the two would clash because of their Australian heritage.

"He would always call me a bogan any time I'd say something, and I'm like, 'mate, you're a bogan!' And every time we'd say something, everyone was like, 'what's a bogan?' and we're like explaining...it was like, 'she's from the Gold Coast', and I'm like, 'you're from the Western suburbs!" she explained.

But Margot won the ultimate battle against Jai when Queensland won the State of Origin series. The two actors had a bet - if New South Wales won the series, then Margot had to get a 'NSW' tattoo and if Queensland won then Jai had to get a 'Queensland' tattoo.

"Queensland won - he's got a Queensland tattoo on his arm," she told Carrie.

The other challenge Margot faced was in choosing her Harley Quinn costume. She said they tried on a thousand different options.

The problem was she needed to look bad-ass but not skanky. Ultimately the costume was inspired by a picture of Debbie Harry who' looked bad-ass but was owning it.

Margot's costume being inspired by a classic rockstar is fitting, as Harley Quinn's look is already being hailed a classic in its own right.

Suicide Squad is due out early next month and is sure to launch Margot's career beyond anything anyone could imagine.
