Waleed Aly urges Aussies to stop joking about Trump

Waleed Aly has carved himself a niche as the voice of reason on topics others will run a mile to avoid tackling.

And his latest editorial on The Project has proved to be the best talking to we’ve ever been given by the presenter, who's urged Australia to stop laughing and joking about Donald Trump.

In a powerful segment, co-written by Waleed Aly and The Project’s managing editor Tom Whitty, Waleed blasted Donald for his “grab them by the p---y” remarks, leaked from a 2005 recording by Access Hollywood.

"That's sexual assault," Waleed said, after describing the incident. "And this is the moment that everything that we've suspected about Donald Trump was confirmed.

He added: “Behind closed doors there is everything that makes our stomachs turn. The predatory nature. The privilege. The sexism. The double standard. The sinister motivation. Behind closed doors, this is what Donald Trump sounds like.”

In the scathing speech, the TV co-host outlined all the offensive things that the politician has ever said, before pointing out that all the memes and laughter has to stop.

“Donald Trump hasn't been a laughing matter for a long time,” he says in the clip above. “So we're making a commitment, between now and the election, not to joke about Trump.

“Because sexism is no laughing matter. Racism is no laughing matter. Inciting violence is no laughing matter. Sexual assault is no laughing matter. And for those reasons and sadly many more, Donald Trump is no laughing matter.”
