The sex scene that divided Twitter

With an all-star cast adapting a best-selling novel, HBO’s latest series Big Little Lies was always going to be amazing.

But the most recent episode had US audiences talking for a very, er, below the belt reason!

During a raunchy scene between abusive husband Perry, played by Alexander Skarsgard and his wife Celeste (Nicole Kidman), Alex, 40, lets it all hang out in a seemingly full frontal moment.

Fans immediately took to Twitter to discuss the authenticity of his performance.

“That absolutely better be Alexander Skarsgard’s d--k or I’m gonna sue you, HBO,” tweeted one fan.

Another Twitter user was equally confused, saying: “Either Alexander Skarsgard has the biggest d--k on earth or they used a rubber hose of some sort on Big Little Lies tonight.”

“I was not expecting to see ALL of Alexander Skarsgard but woah,” another viewer raved.

Another user joked: “Is Swedish sausage a thing?”

Prosthetic debate aside, Twitter users and critics alike have also been praising the series' realistic portrayal of domestic violence.

“After we shot some of the really, really violent scenes, I was in a lot of pain myself. My body was. It was very strange. It was very uncomfortable. It wasn’t a good feeling, I have to say,” Nicole, 49, told Vulture of the show’s intense subject matter.

“But women go through this, so I wanted to tap into the truth of it, and I wanted to be real in those scenes, so that’s what it required."
