Brange's wedding 'beginning of the end'

They married surrounded by their six kids in a picture-perfect wedding at their french chateau, but was this the beginning of the end for Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's union?

Despite being together for a decade prior to tying the knot, Brange's wedded-bliss only lasted two years, before the 42-year-old actress filed for divorce last September and the couple's split turned bitter.

Shortly after their wedding, Ange told Vanity Fair that things between her and Brad did feel "different" now they were officially hitched but it was "nice being husband and wife", however was working together on the film By The Sea what spelled the end for Hollywood's former golden couple?

In the flick, which Angelina also directed, the 53-year-old actor and his now-ex play a couple whose 14 year marriage is in trouble. Despite having just become newlyweds in real life, Brad and Ange opted to play a couple who have drifted apart and whose attentions turn to another couple staying next door to them at the seaside hotel.

While Brad's character drinks too much, a vice the actor revealed earlier this year he had finally given up, his then-on-and-off-screen wife attempts to seduce another man.

"A few friends asked if we were crazy. A married couple going through some difficulties... and I'm directing him," Angelina joked to Vanity Fair.

However the mother-of-six later revealed to The Telegraph how their strong union helped them get through the intense and complex subject matter of the film.

"If we had married and were just starting a relationship it would have been a disaster, but because we have been together so long we wanted to see how far we could push our relationship and our love and see if we can work together under very intense circumstances and with very complex issues and see if it would make us better," she said in 2015.

By The Sea was the first movie the pair had starred in together since Mr. & Mrs. Smith, and although they had previously admitted to falling in love on the 2005 flick, controversially while Brad was still married to Jennifer Aniston, their second movie together pulled out different parts of their relationship.

"I'd be directing myself and him in a scene where we're having a fight, and I'd be pulling out the parts [of Brad] that have an aggression toward me or when you're frustrated with each other—it was very heavy," Ange told Directors Guild of America before the film's release.

"We kept joking that all of the crew felt like they were living in a house where the parents were fighting and you don't know where to stand or where to look."

Defending their decision to play a couple with such complex problems while they were still meant to be in their own honeymoon phase, Ange told People in 2015 that if she and Brad had as bigger problems as their characters they wouldn't have been able to make the movie.

"We may have been having big fights on the set during the day, but at night we were tag-teaming on the bedtime story. As much as we can argue and fight— and we all have our challenges—at the end I say, 'My job is to love him,'" she told the mag.

"Brad and I have our issues, but if the characters were even remotely close to our problems we couldn't have made the film."

However less than two years later, Brange as we knew them were finished.

Angelina recently spoke out about the ending of her marriage Brad, saying cracks started to appear in her marriage around the time her latest directorial effort First They Killed My Father, was in post-production.

“Things got bad,” she revealed somewhat cryptically in a Vanity Fair profile in July this year. “I didn’t want to use that word…things became ‘difficult.’"

She also revealed how she and couple's six kids were moving from and adjusting to their new family dynamic.

“It’s just been the hardest time, and we’re just kind of coming up for air,” she told the publication. “[The new LA house] is a big jump forward for us, and we’re all trying to do our best to heal our family.”

“We’re all just healing from the events that led to the filing…[the kids are] not healing from divorce. They’re healing from some…from life, from things in life.”
