Sydney's beloved ARIA is closing, but not for good

The renowned Sydney restaurant, ARIA, is about to get a huge makeover.

Celebrity chef Matt Moran and his business partner, Bruce Solomon, announced on ARIA's Instagram account that they will be temporarily closing the restaurant's doors this Sunday August 21.

The iconic precinct in Circular Quay will undergo a 10-week refurbishment, and unlike fine dining restaurants Marque, Rockpool est 1989 and Silvereye, ARIA will reopen again mid-November.

When ARIA first opened in 1998, it was at the forefront of Australia’s dining scene, and still very much is. However, after 17 years, Moran and Solomon have decided to spruce their baby up a little.

“We have won multiple awards and accolades for food, wine, and service but as with all great restaurants, we have a commitment to stay fresh and relevant. We look forward to welcoming you to the new ARIA soon,” they captioned a recent Instagram image.

Moran assures his fans that “We won’t be moving away from fine dining at all, if anything, we’ll be upping the ante,” Moran told Broadsheet.

Expect the 170-seater restaurant’s new interior to be more modern and luxurious, decked out in a completely new colour palette consisting of limestone, leather and bronze fittings.

They’ll be implementing a timber ceiling, new ($1000) chairs and simple crockery and glassware created by local artists, which will be the focus of each dining table.

The only two things that will remain the same will be the ARIA name and the menu (plus a large grill section).

ARIA Sydney will re-open in early November for lunch and dinner, Monday to Sunday.
