Miss World Australia balancing pageant life with law degree

Most people are usually blessed in the looks or the brains department, but not Madeleine Cowe. The 23-year-old beauty clearly won the genetic lottery, being both smart and stunning, and now she’s managed to nab the Miss World Australia crown too.

Madeleine, who's just four months shy of completing a law degree, took out the competition on Sunday. The gorgeous brunette is from a small rural town and says her community is super excited about her win.

“They’re so happy, they’re over the moon. I don’t think they can believe a girl from Tully won Miss World Australia,” she told Sunrise hosts, Kochie and Natalie Barr this morning.

When Kochie quizzes her about why she entered, Madeleine gives an eloquent response fit for a pageant queen.

“With Miss World Australia we work really closely with Variety - the children’s charity. I’ve always been very passionate about children, and growing up in a rural community, opportunity isn’t as common as it is in the city. I’m very much into promoting to the children in rural areas that they can do whatever they want to do. So it all kind of connects in a way,” she explains.
