Created by Mode.com and showing the evolution of bridal baked goods, the vid kicks off with the sweet but simple cakes around in 1916.

Baked back in the uncomplicated pre-Zumbo days, there’s not too much to the cake, except for an elegant floral arrangement on top.

From there, we see the arrival of cake toppers in the 1930s. Then it’s onto the 1940s where the fun really begins. It’s all about colour, embellishments and all the cream icing any bride could want.

The early 2000s saw the arrival of the cupcake cake… perfect for those weddings where you’re too busy dancing to actually sit down to eat.

And then it’s onto the cakes of now, which are more like works of art. With the trend for cake artists such as Katherine Sabbath decorating incredible creations almost too good to eat, it's clear we've come a long way since the plain white iced cakes of old.
