It's official! Women drivers are angrier than men

Women drivers have more road rage than male drivers, a new study has found.

Car dealer Hyundai did a study of 1,000 drivers and found that females are on average 12 per cent angrier than men when they are behind the wheel.

Participants were subjected to various changes including sound, sight and smell while they were behind the wheel.

But behavioural psychologist Patrick Fagan, from Goldsmiths University in London, says there’s actually an evolutionary reason behind this finding.

Apparently, it dates back to the defence instincts of our female hunter-gather ancestors

“Psychologically, women score higher than men on emotional and verbal intelligence, and on the personality trait of neuroticism,” Patrick said.

“Evolutionary theory suggests our early female ancestors had to develop an acute sense of danger for anything that threatened them and their young if their cave was undefended while out hunting.

“That ‘early warning system’ instinct is still relevant today, and women drivers tend to be more sensitive to negative stimuli, so get angry and frustrated quicker.”

The study also found that 51 per cent of people loved driving because they loved the sense of freedom.
