Even Bono thinks it's stupid he won 'Woman of the Year'

It’s been a tough week in terms of female equality. First we had to contend with Donald Trump being elected President, and then U2 frontman, Bono, was announced as Glamour magazine’s ‘Woman of the Year’.

The highly suspicious title was bestowed upon Bono for founding the ‘Poverty is Sexist’ movement, according to Glamour. And while we can appreciate the impact Bono’s campaign had, why on earth did he win the title ‘Woman of the Year’? Isn’t it hard enough already for women to gain recognition in the Donald Trump era?

While Glamour has stayed stubbornly silent on the issue, even Bono thinks the whole thing is stupid.

“I know how ridiculous it is for me to be on this stage accepting this award,” he said on Tuesday evening at Glamour’s event.

“But if I didn’t know how ridiculous it was, I did have the blessed internet to remind me.”

In Bono’s defense however, he did admit that he thought it was important for men to be involved in the gender equality conversation too, stating, “Unless we address this problem, both women and men together, our world will continue down this misogynistic, violent and impoverished path.”

Bono also urged Trump to put gender equality on his list of office priorities, though somehow we think the new President elect will be too busy dealing with his combover to help.

“I say to the President-elect: look across to women, make equality a priority, it is the only way forward,” said Bono.

“The train is leaving the station, be on it or be under it.”

Unfortunately for America and the world, it looks like the gender equality train is hightailing it out of the station, leaving behind a trail of impoverished women in its wake.
