Everyone loves a New Year’s countdown so when The Loop aired a very awkward one on NYE, the Internet lost it.

It turns out that The Loop fooled us all and the whole thing was a massive prank.

The bunch of 10 people were thought to have been chosen as competition winners who were invited onto the show on New Year's Eve to join the hosts in the countdown.

However instead of screaming out in excitement as they rang in the New Year, all ten of the winners stood awkwardly to the side of the TV set with uninterested looks on their faces, while the hosts whooped around in glee.

“We decided instead of doing the greatest countdown ever, how can we make this as awkward as possible?” he said, claiming that the show’s regular viewers knew exactly what was happening.

“We love awkward,” he said.
However many people were left confused after the show aired on NYE. ‘

TV presenter Chrissie Swan, was quick to take to Twitter to ask if the winners were actually real or the whole thing was made up for a laugh.

The segment, which was posted to YouTube went viral all around the world, but Scott said it was all a hoax.

“Who wants to come into a studio on New Year’s Eve?” he said, before admitting that it wasn’t a live segment.

“They were so deadpan. Who is unhappy on New Year’s Eve?”

We thought as much.
