Kids are known to say things without a second thought, but when one child insulted a mother-of-four based on her weight, he ended up inspiring her to turn her life around.
Peggy Pullen took less than a year to shed an impressive 36kg. It all started when the 48-year-old Utah mum took her children to a public pool, when a child innocently referred to her as a “hippopotamus.”
While the word was used with no harsh intention behind it, the inadvertent insult impacted Peggy so deeply she felt the need to trap herself in her room and breakdown into tears after the incident.
“I didn't want to eat. I didn't want to come out of the room or anything. I was in a really bad place,” she told Today.
While she hit a low point, the resilient mother came to the conclusion that she had to do something about her weight.
"I knew I had to make a choice that my children could learn from," she said.
The first thing Peggy did was sign up for a 12-week bodybuilding programme online.
Despite the gruelling exercise sessions and change in diet, Peggy told Today that her biggest struggle with the new regimen was posting her "before" picture to the online community.
And nowadays she’s so confident with her progress that she’s inspired loads of people by even taking to Instagram to upload pictures she once found confronting.
You go girl!
