Princess Mary and Prince Frederik rush to hospital

Crown Prince Frederik has left the Winter Olympics and rushed to join Princess Mary in hospital as his father’s condition ‘seriously worsens’.

A statement released by the Danish Royal House said the Prince, who as an IOC member was attending the games in South Korea, flew back to join wife Mary and two of their children at his gravely ill father’s bedside.

In devastating news for Mary and her family it was revealed last week that Prince Henrik of Denmark, the 83-year-old husband of Queen Margrethe and Prince Frederik's father, was diagnosed with a benign tumour.

Princess Mary raced to her father-in-law’s side in hospital on Friday.

Prince Henrik has had issues with his health for the past few years and in a statement last month, it was confirmed that he was forced to seek medical assistance in hospital.

"The Prince has since early January been in Egypt, where he was taken to hospital a few days ago," the royals said in a statement last month.

It comes just months after it was revealed that he was diagnosed with dementia.
