Cruising in a league of its own

Considering our ancestors have been exploring by sea for centuries, the thrill of seeing the world from the water is nothing new. But the way we cruise has been transformed immeasurably and it’s only getting better. As new fleets take to the oceans, bigger and more technically advanced than ever, the onboard features and services are being taken to a whole new level.

Take for example Royal Caribbean’s Ovation of the Seas which is the newest in their Quantum Class series. As well as being the largest, most technologically advanced ship sailing in the Asia-Pacific region, it boasts state-of-the-art facilities and an abundance of features that set it apart.

At 16 stories high and three and a half football fields in length, the sheer size of the vessel has set a new benchmark in cruising. More space means more facilities, broadening the choice of activities and entertainment available on board. But it’s not just the size that’s impressive, and while exploring the vessel it’s clear to see that Royal Caribbean has carefully sought to create a superior cruising experience at each and every turn.

Onboard activities reimagined

Gone are the days when cruising was just about sipping cocktails at the pool by day and having a flutter at the casino by night. The scope of onboard activities now offered is simply mind-blowing. Ovation of the Seas’ eight pools are just the start, not to mention her state-of-the-art fitness centre, adults-only solarium and kids' water park. There’s a FlowRider surf simulator and an outdoor rock-climbing wall where you can hone your skills (or learn a few new ones), as well as SeaPlex, an indoor activity centre equipped with bumper cars, basketball courts, roller skating, and a flying trapeze.

Ever thought about skydiving at sea? Well, now you can with the RipCord by iFLY experience which offers an adrenalin-pumping perspective as you explore new destinations. Or take in the 360° panoramas from the ship’s North Star viewing capsule which gives unparalleled views 90 metres above the ocean—all of which are included in your cruise fare.

Cutting edge entertainment

By night the options are just as endless, with live music bars showcasing jazz, rock, Latin and acoustic performers, as well as poolside parties with DJs, and broadway-style theatre shows. The Casino Royale offers a little taste of Las Vegas at sea, or you can kick back and watch the latest blockbuster movies on their 22 metre outdoor screen.

But Royal Caribbean’s Quantum Class steps nightlife up a notch with their breathtaking Two70° venue. By day it’s an open lounge with magnificent ocean views and by night it will leave you in awe as it transforms into a spellbinding arena with aerial acrobatics and high-tech robotics.

Creative accommodation options

The way you can stay onboard has also been redefined, with a greater choice of accommodation catering to all styles. Their Virtual Balcony Staterooms mean every guest can enjoy the incredible vista outside, even in the Interior Staterooms. Or, those looking for a little more luxury can indulge in their two-storey Loft Suites, offering breathtaking views, private whirlpools, and a dedicated concierge.

Dine with choice and flexibility

As with all ships in Royal Caribbean’s fleet, Ovation of the Seas offers an outstanding choice of dining experiences, from casual hot dog stands and pizza parlours to fine dining and international buffets. There are 18 complimentary and speciality dining venues in total, so you can go the whole cruise without opening your wallet. But for a small fee you can elevate your culinary experience at venues including Jamie’s Italian by Jamie Oliver, Asian-fusion cuisine at Izumi, and an elaborate dreamscape of never-before-seen fare at Wonderland Imaginative Cuisine. But rather than assigned seats and set dining times, their My Time Dining program offers guests the flexibility to dine when it suits them and plan meals around onshore excursions and onboard activities. Sneak in early for a bite before hitting the pool or wake late to linger over brunch.

While enhancing their onboard experience, Royal Caribbean hasn’t compromised the essence of cruising or the unique travel adventures it offers. But their exceptional onboard facilities, flexibility, and activities have raised the cruising bar to an ovation-worthy level.
