5 life lessons we learned from Sam Smith
When you think about your fave celeb, it's not very often you can say, 'They're just like us.'
But British singer Sam Smith kept things totally real during his Nova Red Room performance at the Sydney Opera House last night, dishing out personal snippets of advice as he opened up with the audience.
Whilst on stage the Stay with Me singer talked about the personal journey he's been on recently, shedding heaps of weight and embarking on a new romance with 13 Reasons Why star Brandon Flynn, after being "dumped" last year.
Here at Be, we can't help but feel our lives have been made richer after spending the night with Sam so of course, we just had to tell you.
Here are the five valuable life lessons we learned from our new BFF, Sammy.
In case you've missed it, Sam has been enjoying a long vaycay around Australia with his beau, Brandon, 24.
But just like us, going back to work gives him 'The Fear' and that's okay.
After six weeks of "drinking and eating lots" the Too Good at Goodbye's singer revealed he'd been nervous about taking to the stage.
"I've been so scared," he told the crowd. "But it's beautiful to remember I have a job."
I dunno about you, but we can totes relate.
The 25-year-old — who rose to fame after being sampled on the Disclosure track, Latch — also reminded us that we're no matter how far you fly in life, you should never forget those who helped you get there.
Throughout the course of the night, he melted our hearts with his genuine affection for his band and backing singers.
He gushed about his pianist Reuben James who had been with him since day one, and called one of his guitarists his "best friend."
Now can you see why we want him to be our new bestie?
His words also reminded us why we should cherish our mates more than ever. #squadforlife
Sam warmed our hearts with another worldly wisdom, telling us "real love is never a waste of time."
Sharing personal details about his heartache and the "many men I've loved", he admitted he is now "so happy" in his love life.
His trick?
Well, it was accepting that his failed romances weren't a waste of time and that "all the pain was worth it."
Talk about inspiring.
Whilst baring his soul to the audience — which included some high-profile Aussie guests, such as Home and Away's Ada Nicodemou and Bachelorette faves, Sam Frost and Georgia Love — Sammy boy (that's right, we're on nickname terms now) revealed he put that raw emotion into his track, Burning, which was inspired by his devastating split last year.
When he sang the track, his silky smooth voice literally silenced the room, reminding us that sometimes silence speaks volumes.
We'll try to remember that next time we're losing it over the latest update in Kylie Jenner pregnancy rumours.
There wasn't a dry eye in the house when the Grammy winner performed his hit single Pray which taught us it's okay to cry.
Thanks for such a life-changing evening Sam.
We can't wait to see you again when you're back for your freshly announced Australian Tour later in the year.
