6 of the most outrageous Met Gala scandals
Jay-Z and Solange’s lift brawl
They’re music royalty so when security footage went public of Beyonce’s sister, Solange, physically attacking the singer’s husband, Jay-Z, in a lift after the 2014 Met Gala, jaws around the world collectively hit the ground.
With Beyonce seen impassively standing by as the altercation went down and rumours of infidelity went rampant, the family couldn’t deny the incident.
“Jay and Solange each assume their share of responsibility for what has occurred,” a statement released after the incident read.
“They both acknowledge their role in this private matter that has played out in the public. They both have apologised to each other and we have moved forward as a united family.”
Demi Lovato spills about being Mean Girl-ed
It might be the hottest ticket in town, but not for singer Demi Lovato who went public with how awkward and out of place she felt.
The Sorry Not Sorry star took to Instagram in 2016 to hilariously post the actual moment serious shade was thrown her way by Nicki Minaj.
“This picture pretty much summed up my first and probably last met 😂😂😂 #cool #sof**kingawkward#notforme #sweatpants #forensicfiles#whatsgood,” Demi captioned her snap.
Taylor Swift charms Tom Hiddleston
She was happily dating Scottish DJ Calvin Harris at the time, but soon after Taylor Swift was seen dancing up a storm with British actor Tom Hiddleston at the 2016 Met Gala, tongues started wagging.
Tom publicly gushed about Tay Tay in an interview soon afterwards, telling MTV UK, “She was very charming [at the Met]… She is amazing,” and the end was nigh for the singer’s 15-month romance with Calvin.
The pair split in June, and Taylor was seen hanging out with Tom a few weeks later.
Naked man in a box crashes the red carpet
There’s no doubting Met Gala fashions can be a little out there, but Brazilian visual artist Fyodor Pavlov-Andreevich proved there was a limit to acceptable outfits when he tried to gatecrash last year’s Met Gala completely naked in a clear box.
After being placed on the red carpet, he was covered with a cloth by security, with firefighters cutting open the box so he could be arrested.
Celebs busted smoking
Just like the naughty kids getting busted lighting up in the school toilets, Bella Hadid, Lara Stone, Paris Jackson and Ruby Rose had board members and donors fuming after they shared social snaps of them smoking in the bathroom last year.
With smoking banned in New York’s bars and restaurants in 2003, Met bigwigs were less than impressed and called for the celebs to be fined.
“As a donor to the Met, I was so insulted to see all these ‘celebrities’ smoking and taking selfies of themselves in the bathroom,” a source told Page Six.
“Mostly, it’s disrespectful to the art collection, which needs to be kept 100% smoke-free.”
Anna Wintour blacklists Kim Kardashian
She’s the ferocious fashion veteran in charge of the guest list, but for years Anna Wintour didn’t deem Kim Kardashian worthy of an invite to the ultra-exclusive event.
Kim was noticeably absent from the guest list in 2012 when she started dating Kanye West, with sources at the time revealing it was a deliberate snub.
“Anna hates Kim,” a source told RadarOnline at the time. “Why would she be invited to the event? It is all the biggest stars in the world and Kim doesn’t fit that bill at all.”
That’s all water under the bridge now, with Kim not only attending, but spawning those unforgettable couch dress memes when she attended in 2013.
