Air hostess claims you don't really have to switch off your phone on planes
The school holidays are among us – yay – which usually means more and more people are packing their bags and jetting away to some exotic location for a nice family vacay.
But if you’re worried about how to entertain the kids on the flight it turns out you might not have to worry as one flight attendant is claiming that they can still use their phones – which I’m sure they’ll be stoked about.
Seriously, next time you’re on a plane and an air steward tells you to put your phone on flight mode, remember this.
You don’t actually need to.
Well, that’s according to an anonymous flight attendant, who says it’s all just an unnecessary precaution the airlines take in a bid to maintain control over the flight.
“All of those commands are really just precautionary,” she added. “You’re not allowed to get up when taxiing to the gate, but we’re going 3 miles an hour. What’s actually going to happen?”
The secret flight attendant — referred to as Betty — works for a “major American airline”, and also spilled all on the best time to attempt to join the mile high club as well as confessing the coffee could be “swimming with E.coli.”
“Don’t drink the coffee on aeroplanes,” she said. “It’s the same potable water that goes through the bathroom system.”
“Wait for service, when the attendants are all in the aisle,” she said. “Everyone’s busy and has a job at that point, and I don’t care what’s going on behind me then. There could be 10 people in the bathroom and I wouldn’t be aware of it.”
However, “Betty” did have one final word of advice for anyone feeling frisky mid-flight.
“Godspeed if you’re gonna try and have sex in one [a bathroom],” she said. “They’re disgusting and small, but it is possible.”
Pilot and author of Cockpit Confidential, Patrick Smith has previously said the whole flight-mode procedure is “more an exercise of caution” than anything else.
So there you have it. You can leave your phone on.
