Best of the Worst: Vampires

We know that there's a glut of good looking vampires currently running around our screens in "The Twilight Saga" and "True Blood" but what about those that aren't so good looking or kind-of-heart? We take a look at the best of worst and the worst of the worst vampires here. Starting with the "Twilight Saga: New Moon," (2009) it was a toss up between Michael Sheen (who plays Aro) and Jamie Campbell Bower (who plays Caius) from the franchise. Neither are particularly nice or particularly sexy, though we do have to admire their strong hairlines and cheekbones.

Tom Cruise played Lestat in Anne Rice's "Interview with the Vampire" (1994). Blond flowing locks and frilly period-piece jackets do it for you? Consider when Brad Pitt and Kirsten Dunst's characters try to kill him by dumping him in a swamp after slicing him open. He turned into an unattractive, slightly green monster for a period of time. Not so attractive after all (unless of course that's what you're into).

After an encounter with a 'neck-biter,' a high-powered publishing executive (Nicholas Cage) thinks he's turning into a vampire. And so this weird tale plays out in "Vampire's Kiss" (1988), with Cage's character turning into a plastic fang wearing killer who sleeps under his over-turned couch. Riveting.

In "Daybreakers" (2010), gorgeous aussie actress Isabelle Lucas is transformed into a gruesome vampire as a plague sweeps over the earth, transforming most of the world's population into vampires and making humans an endangered species. Nasty.

Eddie Murphy stars as Maximillian in 1995's "Vampire in Brooklyn." One to suffer from the ugly angry affliction, getting his back up got you an encounter with the nastier side of the vamp, furrowed brow and mullet included.

Kiefer Sutherland starred in "The Lost Boys" (1987) as a party-boy vamp with a nasty streak (what is it with vampires and their tempers?). Another to suffer from the angry-uglies, irritating this 80s vampire would convert him into a blonde mullet-ed beast, with yellow eyes and big furrowed brow (anybody seeing an 80s tragic vamp trend here).

Gary Oldman took on various disgusting forms as Dracula in "Bram Stoker's Dracula" (1992). From wolf man to bat creature to black-tear crying monster, it'd be enough to do any vamp's head in (did we mention the crazy coloured eye again).

"Dracula: Dead and Loving It" (1995) requires little explanation. Leslie Nielsen tries to make Dracula funny (sorry Mel Brooks but it's no "Monty Python"). Next.

Another Aussie to make the list, Richard Roxburg stars as a dastardly Count Vladislaus Dracula in "Van Helsing" (2004). Not sure whether his wigs or evil plans for the seemingly harmless Frankenstein's Monster make him more evil or crazy. An interesting performance from Roxburg in a stellar aussie cast (including Hugh Jackman and David Wenham).

No, we're not talking the TV show but in fact, the original movie that inspired the TV show "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" (1992). In this film, David Arquette played Benny, the slacker friend of Luke Perry. Once tranformed, he became a pale-faced, pointy-eared, hovering (not flying) bloodsucker. In comparison to all the other great vampires and Draculas, he kind of seems a little lame.

Max Schreck played Count Orlok in the 1922 classic horror film, "Nosferatu." From the mangled fangs and lurching, to the clawing his way across the screen this was one gruesome vampire.

"Shadow of the Vampire" (2000) follows the tale of Max Schreck and his acting methods to create his legendary onscreen performance in "Nosferatu." Willem Dafoe plays Schreck in this thought provoking, twisted tale that poses the question, 'what if Schreck was in fact a real vampire and not acting'?
