Aussie bride drops 51kgs before walking down the aisle

An Aussie bride who refused to tie the knot without losing weight has shed an incredible 51kg before walking down the aisle.

Breeana North, from the NSW Hunter Valley, weighed 122kg when her partner proposed, and was determined not to get married in a size 24 wedding dress.

The 24-year-old kept a picture of her dream wedding gown in the back of her mind as motivation, and switched to a ketogenic diet – which focuses on high fat, high protein foods while cutting carbs.

Dropping seven dress sizes before her big day, Breeana said she felt more confident than ever walking down the aisle.

Her husband Tye North, 29, also went on the keto diet in the lead up to the wedding, managing to drop an incredible 101kg so he could wear tux that wasn’t specially made for his size.

“When Tye proposed to me, I was over the moon but a wave of sadness washed over me at the same time,” Breeana said. “I knew I wanted to marry him, but not the way we were.”

“We were both so obese and had terrible eating habits. We would binge on mountains of fried food, sweet treats and drink four litres a soft drink daily between us without issue.

“I told Tye that I’d only marry him if we made a solid effort to get healthy, and he agreed.

The couple changed their diet, got a personal trainer, and started going to the gym five days a week.

“The weight just began melting off. It was incredible,” she said. “I felt like a princess on my wedding day.”

“And to see Tye healthier too after the losing the weight was such a good feeling.

“He still has a long journey ahead of him, but he is very determined. It’s so inspiring.

“We had lost a total of 152kg between us for the wedding. I couldn’t have done it without him by my side.”

Breeana, a customer service assistant, had been overweight her entire life and was bullied throughout school due to her size – which became so severe that she dropped out.

She claims life after school only got worse as she isolated herself at home and comfort ate around the clock.

She me her future husband on an online dating site in 2012, and Tye – who works as a security officer – popped the question just seven months later.

Since losing the weight, Breeana said she feels so liberated when out shopping and no longer needs to buy baggy clothes to hide her frame.

She said: “I’d always just wear tracksuits or big baggy jumpers with leggings. I thought it hid my fat, but it just made me look worse.

“It feels incredible to be able to go into any store and find something in my size. I have so much more confidence.

“Doing this with the love of my life has been so rewarding. We really motivate and inspire each other.

“It was the best thing we could have done for our relationship.”
