The beautiful meaning behind the NZ Prime Minister's new baby name

New Zealand’s prime minister has introduced the public to her brand–new daughter, revealing her name as Neve Te Aroha Ardern Gayford, or Neve Gayford for short.

Little Neve made her debut while her beaming parents, Jacinda Arden and partner Clarke Gayford, greeted the media.

The little baby girl, who is absolutely divine, as a very special and beautiful name.

“We chose Neve because we just liked it,” Ms Ardern said. “When we met her, we thought she looked like she suited the name.

“Also it means, in various forms, bright and radiant and snow, which seemed like a good combination for Matariki (Maori new year) and for solstice.”

The couple also added the name “Te Aroha” which was their way of “reflecting the amount of love” Neve had been shown before she arrived and “all of the names we were gifted along the way (by various iwi or Maori people)”.

Te Aroha is also where the 37-year-old prime minister is from.

The new baby has also gained attention from across the pond, receiving letters of love from world leaders, including the Queen and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex who said they looked forward to meeting the new bub this year.
