A rainbow tunnel connecting San Francisco with Marin County on Highway 101 has officially been renamed for Robin Williams, who called the area home. The sign went up on Tuesday — a year and a half after the late comedian’s death.

A Change.org petition was started to make the name change from Waldo, after California politician William Waldo who made an unsuccessful bid for governor in 1853, to Williams just days after the star committed suicide in his Tiburon, Marin County, home in 2014.

“Above each of the tunnel entrances are rainbows, which I believe personify Robin in that he was so playful, fun, accessible, alive and colorful,” wrote Julie Wainwright, who started the petition. “Plus, many people first learned of Robin from his role in the 1970s TV show Mork and Mindy, where he often wore rainbow-colored suspenders.”

The California State Senate approved the name change in June, so the new sign was just a formality.

The tunnel already has Hollywood ties. It’s appeared in several movies like Dirty Harry.

Robin’s widow, Susan Williams, has said that depression did not cause the Oscar-winning actor of films including Good Will Hunting and Good Morning Vietnam, to take his life.

It was the debilitating brain disease Diffuse Lewy Body Dementia (DLB), which is the second most common neurodegenerative dementia after Alzheimer’s and causes hallucinations, impairment of motor function, and anxiety.
