Perth-born Renae Ayris has narrowly missed out on the Miss Universe 2012 title.

The 22-year-old dancer was one of five contestants out of the original 89 to make it to the last round, but was she beaten at the last hurdle by Miss Universe USA, Olivia Culpo.

Brazil, the Philippines and Venezuela were represented in the final five, as well as USA and Australia.

The Miss Congeniality title, won by Australian Jesinta Campbell in 2010, went to Miss Guatemala.
