The new Spring hair trend: Micro foiling

Spring has sprung and we're in need of some lighter, brighter beauty touch-ups/overhauls.

Gone are the days of blacks and greys - now we're looking at colours and patterns and florals. So we need hair to match ammiright?

The new Spring hair trend is called Micro Foiling. It's made for the time-poor and takes away that harsh line that normal foils can leave you with. It means a natural creamy golden look for the Spring social season.

Esstudio Galleria's Hair DIrector Aleks Abadia says “We’re always pushing the boundaries and trialling new techniques to make half day colour appointments a thing of the past. Before there was lunchtime botox – now there is coffee break colour! Well it’s not quite that quick, but you get the point!”

I decided to road-test the trend, because my hair was in dire need of help. Looking like this...

The before.
The before.

Aleks assured me he could help. He didn't use traditional foils, but washable white squares made from recycled materials. They a lot lighter than normal silver foil so you don't feel like an alien transmitter when you have a head of dye in.

White foils.

The bleach is less damaging for your hair too - hurrah! The foils aren't exclusively for blondes either, if any redheads or brunettes want to give it a go - the time is now.

In Aleks's words, "It’s really an advanced way of creating balayage and is great for face framing. We have a lot of time poor women in business or mums looking to maintain an on-trend colour minus long and regular salon visits, so this technique does just that."

Getting there.
Getting there.

I wasn't sure that this new micro foiling could fix my hair, but I was definitely proven wrong. Although I kind of wished I could've stayed in the salon longer because it was insanely cool.

There was a beautiful dog and you got tea, nuts and...wine!

The final look.
The final look.

Plus when you get your hair washed you lie all the way down (no cranked necks) in a chair that masages you.

I'm glad this whole spring trend is made for the time-poor - because I am definitely one of those people - but I kinda want to get back to this hip Esstudio Galleria place for some more chill time - and maybe a tipple of wine.
