Women are now getting cosmetic surgery to survive in their jobs

Women over the age of 45 are feeling so much pressure to stay forever young that they're getting cosmetic surgery to survive in their jobs.

According to the experts, older women are so intimidated by their younger counterparts that they're doing whatever they can to keep their careers thriving.

Speaking to Be Dr Mark Edinburg, from The Eden Institute of Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery, said there is a "definite trend" in women over the age of 45-years-old getting surgery due to their concerns over their career.

"Patient concerns are around employment opportunities or just surviving in their current situations," Dr Edinburg said.

"Patients are feeling insecure because of the way they look compared to their younger counterparts and see this as a real threat to job security.

He continued claiming women "know and understand that they have the years of experience and wisdom in their positions and therefore a more forceful contribution to their occupation and jobs, but somehow this just does not seem to be enough for enough for them."

According to Dr Edinburg, women are looking at a range of rejuvenation procedures (and also non-surgical procedures) to keep them looking and feeling their best.

They include fillers, laser, neuromodulators, CoolSculpting and then move to invasive procedures such as blepharoplasty and face lifting operations.

"All the procedures are proving to be very worthwhile for patients as they boost confidence and self-esteem and gives back feelings of competency, competitiveness and job security," Dr Edinburg said.

According to Studio 10 make-up brand founder Grace Fodor, the trend amongst women over the age of 45 is "ridiculous".

"It’s called this ageless beauty idea that you can’t tell if someone is 40-years-old or 55-years-old and women over 50 are struggling in their jobs which is ridiculous," Grace told Be.

"In a man it’s experience and expertise."

Grace, who turns 50-years-old in a few weeks time, claims women shouldn't feel any pressure to live up to what society thinks they should look like.

"I want to go out and say 'you shouldn’t have to feel you need surgery'," she said.

"Why should you have to hide the age that you are?

"At at the same time there’s so much judgement around it. I’ve got loads of friends who’ve had botox and you just think - when do you start? When do you stop? Where’s the line? But I’m not sure there is a line and the reality is there is judgment."

According to Grace, there are several steps you can take to age gracefully, without indulging in cosmetic surgery.

She recommends that women in their 40's, 50's and 60's follow make-up trends, but do them in their own way and make it work for them and their age.

Among her tips are staying away from glitter ("Unless you’re doing a fashion look stay away from glitter"), add radiance with highlighter and move from powder-based products to creme-based ones.

"The wrong finish can be ageing, the wrong texture on the skin can be ageing," she said.

"As you age your skin is much dryer so an anti-ageing tip would be to move away from powders because powders can be quite drying on the skin and will settle in lines.

"Look more at crème liquids which are much nicer on ageing skin."
