Here's what happened when I got a lash lift

We curl them, tint them, perm them, glue them and coat them in layers of mascara – all in the quest to achieve the perfect peepers.

And with false lash and lash extensions sales booming, people are lusting after long, luscious lashes now more than ever.

In my case, I've always has naturally long eyelashes, but due to my blonde hair they're pretty much invisible to the naked eye; that is unless I slather them in some life-saving mascara and even then they never reach their full potential.

So when I heard that there was such as thing as a lash lift, which is not only like a push-up bra for your eyelashes but you can also get them tinted at the same time, I was all for it.

Amy Jean Eye Couture Lash Elevate promised to give my natural lashes an instant ‘root lift’ and exaggerate and open my eyes, leaving them perfectly curled in the process. What's not to love about that?

Here's everything you need to know about the treatment before you take the plunge.

How does it work?

The non-invasive treatment lasts about one hour, depending on the amount of time needed for the perming agent to take hold. All you need to do is show up, lie down on the table and let the therapist do her thing.

From there she will apply a lifting solution to your lashes, followed by a setting agent, then the lash tint and finally a lash conditioner. Even if you don't like people touching your eyes, this treatment should be a walk in the park for you. Honestly, I fell asleep mid-way and I'm usually a bit sketchy with people going near my eye area.

Does it hurt?

If you have sensitive eyes, it may sting a bit when the solution is setting and the lash tint is applied. However if you're used to getting your eyelashes tinted or putting in contact lenses this shouldn't be a problem. It's more like a very mild itch on your eyelashes that only lasts a maximum of ten minutes, after which the agent is removed.

What's the damage?

For an hour-long treatment, the lash lift may seen like it would cost an arm-and-a-leg but in fact it comes in at a fairly reasonable $115, which includes the lift, tint and conditioner. If you're sick of getting up early every morning just so you can curl your lashes before work, then this is an investment you may not regret.

How long does it last for?

Believe me when I say, I got a good eight weeks out of mine, if not more. Amy Jean Eye Couture recommend getting your lash lift redone every six-eight weeks but if you're like me, it could last way longer.
