The biggest wedding mistake Aussie couples are making

It can be easy to get carried away when planning your big day.

From stunning venues to fancy food and free-flowing booze — it all adds up.

But new research has shown many Aussie couples are getting themselves into serious debt to pay for their dream day — and the mistake is costing them dearly.

Choosi’s 2018 Cost of Love report found that the pressure of having an “Instagram perfect” day has left newlyweds feeling the pinch long after they’ve walked down the aisle.

According to the research, according to 84 per cent of people planning to walk down the aisle felt stressed by the burden of having a wedding to brag about on social media.

As a result, couples are forking out thousands to have a picture perfect wedding, spending anything from $20,000 to $100,000 on the one-day event.

In May, finder.com.au revealed that 41 per cent of newlyweds will go into debt to pay for their wedding, with more than half of those taking longer than six months to pay the cash back.

But while some brides are getting into financial difficulties over their wedding day, others are becoming increasingly thrifty.

Earlier this year Sam Willcocks married her hubby Andrew in a stunning Victoria location, but revealed she’d slashed $8k off the cost of her wedding with a simple Kmart hack.

“Shocked” at the exorbitant prices involved in organising a wedding she got crafty with the budget stores items, making her own ‘save the date’ cards and gift tags as well as using the bargain homeware as décor.

She even perfected her wedding dance with free lessons off YouTube.
