Bridezilla tells bestie she’s too fat to be bridesmaid

There’s no doubt brides can get a little crazy in the lead up to their big day, but throwing away a 20 year friendship over how someone looks in a dress?

One woman has revealed how hurt and shocked she was to not only be barred from being a part of her best friend’s big day – but to find out the reason why was because of her weight.

In an agony aunt letter read aloud in Slate’s 'Dear Prudence' podcast, the woman explains how she had been besties with her friend Jane since primary school.

“Jane got married a few months ago and told me she was only planning on having her sisters in her wedding party,” explained the woman.

“I was hurt, since she was in my wedding, but I understood her desire to keep the party small.

“Well, on her wedding day I discovered she actually had four bridesmaids, her sisters and two of her college friends. I didn’t want to ruin her day, so I didn’t say anything about it at the time.”

The woman then goes on to reveal how a month later, she finally plucked up the courage to ask Jane why she was left out of the bridal party.

Worried she’d done something to upset her, the woman was instead left utterly devastated when Jane came clean about the real reason.

“[Jane] then admitted she hadn’t asked me because I’m overweight and she thought I wouldn’t look good in the bridesmaid dress she had selected,” the woman reveals.

“I had no idea what to say to this, and told her I felt hurt and didn’t think I could see her again any time soon.

"I feel pretty devastated about this, especially since my weight has always been an issue for me and I thought Jane understood."
