Busy Philipps reveals she was raped when she was 14

Watching Brett Kavanaugh accuser Christine Blasey Ford testify in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday inspired Busy Philipps to break her silence about her own rape.

The Freaks and Geeks, Dawson’s Creek, and Cougar Town actress, 39, shared a photo of herself at 14, which she said was the age “I was raped.” She added, “It’s taken me 25 years to say those words.”

Philipps said that she wrote about the rape in her upcoming book, This Will Only Hurt a Little, which comes out Oct. 16.

“I finally told my parents and sister about it 4 months ago,” she wrote. “Today is the day we are silent no more. All of us. I’m scared to post this.”

She ended by writing, “I can’t imagine what Dr. Ford is feeling right now.”

Ford’s coming forward to testify about her claim that Supreme Court nominee Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her in high school has inspired many other survivors of assault to share their stories.

Top Chef’s Padma Lakshmi broke her silence this week, penning an op-ed for the New York Times about being raped at 16.

Alyssa Milano revealed that she was sexually assaulted as a teen and used the hashtag #WhyIDidntReport to get other people to share their stories.

We’ve also seen #BelieveSurvivors protests, in which the casts of TV shows and many other celebrities have participated.
