Carrie Bickmore reveals brutal truth about travelling with kids

She’s just come back from what looked to be the picture-perfect family holiday in Hawaii.

But The Project star Carrie Bickmore has hilariously recounted exactly what it took to get her children Ollie, 10, and three-year-old Evie there and the traumas of long-haul travel for parents.

Carrie, who is currently expecting her third child with partner Chris Walker detailed a horrific hour-by-hour account of trying to keep her kids occupied after dealing with delays on the tarmac leaving Australia and bored children in the air.

“My friend suggested bringing one little wrapped pressie for every hour of the flight to avoid them spending the entire time on screens,” Carrie wrote in her Stellar magazine column.

“Great parenting, I thought. But Evie’s seat looks like Christmas morning already and I have just one gift left for when we are in the air.”

With her partner Chris sound asleep, Carrie succumbed to screen time for some peace, but even that only gave her a brief respite.

“Both kids still watching screens,” wrote Carrie.

“I think I could finally watch Hannah Gadsby’s Nanette. I watch it in two-minute instalments as I keep stopping to reinsert Evie’s earbuds and take her to the toilet for the 100th time. She’s just intrigued at the sound it makes and never actually goes.”

Frazzled Carrie wonders how on earth parents did long-haul travel before the wonders of technology to distract little ones, before thinking she’s finally made it – only to have their flight delayed in the air.

Eleven hours later, the family touched down… only for wait for their pram to arrive. And it never did.

While it sounds like the flight from hell, Carrie admitted her little family had a great time and they can’t wait to do it all over again.

“How quickly we’ve forgotten the pain,” she revealed.
