Celebs react to Ireland's abortion ban repeal

History was made in Ireland on Friday, after the 66.4 percent voted to repeal the country’s eighth amendment which put a ban on women’s right to have an abortion.

Now, following the historic news many celebrities have spoken out in celebration of the victory.

Russell Crowe led the celebrity tweets, reflecting on his own experience as a parent.

“I have two beautiful sons. I wasn’t lucky enough to have a daughter,” he wrote. “If I had, I’d wish her to have courage like yours. Nobody’s daughter should ever be told she doesn’t have authority over her own body.”

“A vote for the freedom to choose, a vote for women’s rights, a vote for women’s control over their bodies, a vote for women’s health & safety, a vote towards equality,” she proudly said.

Former One Direction member and Irish native Niall Horan also shared his thoughts on the vote.

Boy George, Ellie Goulding and Mindy Kailing also shared their congratulations to Ireland on the result of the vote.
