Clever design hacks to solve your storage frustrations

Dealing with clutter seems to be one of those everlasting frustrations, especially in the family home.

So, taking inspiration from IKEA’s leading interior designers, we have compiled six clever storage hacks to easily manage the everyday clutter and make your life just that little bit easier.

1. Pegboards:

In our opinion, pegboards are one of the most underrated design hacks out there.

These are super handy for storing everyday items you just want to grab on the go.

And the best thing is, they can be used for practically anything as you can personalise the design, shape, size and fittings to suit your own style.

2. Pet food:

Something that is never a pretty sight is pet food.

Now a win-win solution: Easily hide the bowels out of sight by storing them in that pesky bottom draw of the kitchen that never gets much use anyway.

3. Footstool storage:

Struggling with living room storage space? Swap your ordinary footstool for one with storage and you won’t regret it.

While it may not be a revolutionary hack, it is a simple solution for dealing with some of the clutter that lingers around the living room, without having to find more cupboard space.

Store anything from, throws, magazines, toys or games that you like to keep close at hand.

If you're really organised, you can even add boxes to neatly group items together - a great idea if you're storing kids toys.

4. Strapped storage:

Wrap a strap – luggage straps or belts work great – around a wall shelf, under a desk, or even some hooks for some added storage.

A great idea for yoga mats, foam rollers, magazines or anything that can slot into a loop.

5. Ladder towel rack:

After a wall rack? Check the bathroom range!

Ladder towel racks seem to all the rage lately, but don't be fooled thinking they can only be used to hang towels.

Taking up little floor space, these look stylish anywhere around the house and a great way to make a small space more functional.

Place it behind a chair, attach a clamp light, drape some magazines or books with a blanket and voilà, you've got yourself a slick looking reading zone.

6. Kitchen hooks:

Feel organised by putting these simple hook racks – typically for a bedroom – in your kitchen cupboards.

Not only does it free up shelf space, but this is also a neat trick to arrange spices, tea packets, or smaller cooking tools.
