A dad who bought his daughter a used car for her birthday has revealed the devastating note he found in the glove compartment.
Kevin Duke took to Facebook group ‘Love What Matters’ to post an image of the letter from the daughter of the previous owner and it is truly heartbreaking.
The dad was “tinkering around” in the car he bought for his daughter Jada for her 16th birthday when he read the note and “shed a few tears”.
“I just wanted to let you know what a special vehicle you’ve bought,” the note, which has been revealed the have been written by American woman Sabrina Archery.
“The car belonged to my mum. She passed away February 25, 2015 in a house fire along with my 6-year-old daughter and my aunt.”
Sabrina not only lost the life she knew before the accident but because she had to pay for three funerals she also had to sell her mom’s car.
“This car holds a lot of special memories for me,” she wrote.
“It’s very upsetting that I have lost my family and my home and now I’m losing this last link I have with my mum and child through no fault of my own.”
Sabrina then went on to say she hopes whoever has bought the car, which her family named Sylvia, fills it with music, laughter and love, like it was when her mother owned it.
“This car, with all its quirks, is the last piece of my family. Be nice to it. Play it a country song, ‘Big Green Tractor’ was my daughter’s favourite sound ever or some Lynyrd Skynyrd’s ‘Freebird’. That song meant so much that I played it at their funerals,” she wrote.
“You’re riding with angels. My angels. Talk to them if you like, I’m sure they’d like to see and hear about any new adventure you take in this car.”
The post went viral online, with hundreds of commenters claiming Kevin should try to find Sabrina and give her the car back.
However Sabrina commented saying she understands why Kevin needs the car and is “touched” by the public’s response to her letter.
“I can't say it enough, how amazing Kevin truly is,” she wrote.
“He did not have to let me know that he found my letter. He didn't have to share our story here.
“Please don't be upset with him for having Sylvia. I know in my bones that if he was able to give me the car that he would in an instant. It's not easy to buy a car. He just got lucky and got this one.
“I'm emotional, can't quit crying and I feel so much love I could just burst.
“I'm thankful our story makes people want to love their family a little more tonight.
“Give your babies extra lovins, call your mom and go visit your grandparents if u still have them. Tomorrow is not promised! And again, thanks to all of u for your support.”
