Destiny's Child singer Michelle Williams checks into mental health facility

Michelle Williams posted a note on her Instagram on Tuesday about mental health and when to seek help, just hours before TMZ broke the news that the Destiny’s Child singer had checked herself into a mental health facility.

According to TMZ’s source, Williams has been receiving treatment for the past several days at the facility for depression.

The 37-year-old singer has been open about her struggle with depression in the past and even revealed on The Talk during the Oct. 18, 2017, show that she was at one time suicidal.

“I think at the age of 25, had I had a name to what I was feeling at the time, I would have disclosed that ‘I’ve been suffering from depression,’” Williams said on the talk show.

“I didn’t know until I was in my 30s what was going on. … I’ve been suffering since the age of between 13 and 15. … I didn’t know what to call it.”

Williams went on to say that at the time, she told Destiny’s Child’s manager, Matthew Knowles, about her feelings.

He responded, according to Williams, “Ya’ll just signed a multimillion-dollar deal, you’re about to go on tour, what do you have to be depressed about?”

She said, “It got really, really bad … to the point of I was suicidal. I was to that place where it got so dark and heavy.”

“Today I proudly, happily and healthily stand here as someone who will continue to always lead by example as I tirelessly advocate for the betterment of those in need.”
