From Diana and Charles to Meghan and Harry: a history of royal PDAs

For Meghan Markle and Prince Harry fans, any outing from the newlyweds is something to get excited about, but royal enthusiasts were given an extra treat yesterday when the pair shared a public smooch.

After Meghan presented her husband with his trophy at the Sentebale polo match, the pair gave one another a sweet kiss.

Although it is not a written rule, members of the royal family are reportedly asked to keep any public displays of affection on the down-low.

While it’s rare to see these PDAs from the senior members, it’s not totally unheard of.

The princess was often on hand to award her husband with various sporting trophies and the pair shared many congratulatory kisses.

Ever since their engagement news broke, Harry, 33, and Meghan, 36, haven’t held back and continued to be fairly intimate with one another during official outings.

One kiss from a polo match at Cirencester Polo Club in July, 1985, mirrored Harry and Meghan’s from the Sentebale prize-giving.

Harry’s parents, Prince Charles and the late Princess Diana, were not afraid of packing on the PDA while their marriage was still going strong.

Part of this is likely to be due to their seniority – let’s not forget Prince William is second in line to the throne.

However, the royal couple do occasionally let moments of affection slip through, and when they do it’s very sweet.

Again, the Duchess has been known to award her husband with his polo trophies, often giving him a kiss afterwards, while on a recent trip to Hounslow for the St. Patrick’s Day Parade, fans went wild when William could be seen gently held his pregnant wife’s back.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are far more intimate while out in public than other royals, and this started right from the off.

The newlyweds are noticeably tactile during official engagements: they hold hands, they gently touch one another on the back, and they kiss.

In fact, it was Harry and Meghan’s first ever public kiss at the Audi Polo Challenge in July 2017 – albeit spotted with a long lens camera – that solidified their relationship to the public.

Fast-forward to May 2018, and the pair shared not one but two smooches at their royal wedding.
