WATCH: Ed and James’ Carpool Karaoke showdown

James Corden’s Carpool Karaoke has featured whole host of famous faces and the most recent edition with Ed Sheeran is definitely up there with some of the best.

James wanted to address some rumours with Ed, particularly the claim that he can fit 47 Malteser chocolates into his mouth. Watch the full video above.

In true Late Late Show style the host just happened to have a jar full of the chocolates in his car.

James challenged the singer saying: “Let me try and see if I can beat you. Is there a knack to this?”

Ed seemed to be conceding from the start replying: “You can probably beat me actually.”

Definitely not the case. James had to give up at a mere 26 of the chocolate covered balls. Boo!

He opened his car door to spit out the chocolates and turned back to Ed saying: “Oh my God! I thought I was going to throw up! How are you doing this?”

The 26-year-old soldiered on, managing to stuff a whopping 55 Maltesers into his mouth!

But his body couldn’t handle any more and he quickly rushed to open the door to spit them all out.

The pair also belted out to a few of Ed’s hits including "Shape of You", "Castle on the Hill" and "Thinking Out Loud".

The singer revealed that he was actually nervous about appearing on the segment with James.

“I was feeling so nervous about coming on this show because I couldn’t see what was funny about me singing my songs in a car,” he admitted to the host.

James replied with encouragement: “But you’re great!”

Ed also said he “was quite an unfortunate looking kid.”

He joked: “I feel like God was looking down at me like, ‘You need help getting laid mate.’”
