Ed Sheeran is Spotify's most popular artist of 2017

It's that time of year again... the time to relive all the music that made 2017 great, as Spotify reveals its annual 'Year in Music' lists for the most streamed artists, albums, tracks and moments.

And the winner for the most streamed artist on the streaming service is... Ed Sheeran!

The red haired singer topped both the Australian and global charts after his massive success with the album ​‘​÷’​ (Divide) which reached 3.1 billion streams globally.

His hit single Shape of You also took the title for most streamed track of '17 with over 1.4 billion streams globally.

“There is no doubt that 2017 was the year of Ed Sheeran," Spotify’s Chief Content Officer said as he reached an average of 47 million monthly listeners.

Following the British crooner in the global top five was Drake, The Weeknd, Kendrick Lamar and The Chainsmokers.

As for the top 5 global female artists, Rihanna took out the title for her third year in a row followed by Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande and Sia. While Lorde and Adele also made their way into the Australian top five.

After Ed in the most streamed track was Despacito (Remix) from Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee feat Justin Bieber.

The most popular group was'''''' Coldplay, with Linkin Park not far behind, no doubt affected by the heartbreaking loss of their lead singer, Chester Bennington.

This year Spotify has also launched a personalised 2017 Wrapped feature to compare your individual taste with that of the nation. Wrapped allows you to see how many minutes of music you have listened to as well as how many songs, artists, and genres. It'll then create your own top streaming list summing up your own year in music for 2017.
