She may be known worldwide, but Emma Stone wants to get rid of her name.
It turns out that the 'La La Land' star’s real name is actually Emily Jean Stone but she was forced to take the moniker Emma Stone when she was in stage school.
The star has revealed that when she went to sign up for the Screen Actors Guild, someone with her name was already enrolled but now she wants it back.
Under SAG rules no two members can have the same name so at the age of 16, Stone was forced to think up a different name.
In an interview with W magazine, Stone said she first took the name Riley, but she couldn’t get used to people calling her that.
"Well, I was 16 when I found out at SAG I couldn't have my own name,” she said.
“So to ask a 16 year old to pick a new name is really an interesting process because I was like, 'I'm going to be Riley. My name is going to be Riley Stone.' And so my name was Riley Stone for about six months and I did a guest spot on 'Malcolm in the Middle' and one day they were like, 'Riley, Riley,' and I had no idea who they were talking to and they were like, 'Hey, hey come on we need you on set.' And I was like, 'Oh I'm not Riley, I can't be Riley.' "
The young actress then revealed that she thought of taking inspiration from Michael J. Fox and calling herself Emily J. Stone.
"I had the option of Emily J. Stone and it's kind of like Michael J. Fox, and I love Michael J. Fox, but I don't think I could pull off the J.” she said.
“So then I changed it to Emma because you know it's closer to Emily, but most people call me 'M,' that know me well. I would love to get her (Emily Stone) back."
Stone is currently being applauded worldwide for her part as Mia in La La Land.
The film, based in LA, is all about an aspiring actress’ journey to fulfill her dream.
On the way she meet a tall and brooding Jazz player Sebastian, who is played by the handsome Ryan Gosling.
Critics have been touting the film to sweep the boards during awards season and its already been nominated for six Golden Globe Awards, with the show due to take place on Sunday.
