Jimmy Fallon is sorry for touching Donald Trump’s hair
The host copped a lot of backlash for his interview with the then US presidential candidate, Donald Trump.
Jimmy Fallon was accused by viewers of trivialising Trump’s actions in their interview prior to the election. Watch the video above.
A few weeks after the interview took place Donald Trump was elected the next President of the United States.
The host has kept quiet about the controversy caused, until now.
In a recent interview with The New York Times, he admits that he "regrets" staying silent and addresses the issues in what some have labelled an attempt at redemption.
“They [viewers] have a right to be mad,” Jimmy said.
“I didn’t do it to humanise him. I almost did it to minimise him. I didn’t think that would be a compliment,” he continued.
The infamous interview involved the host tousling Trump’s famous locks in a joking manner, which did not go down well with the general public.
This feature on Jimmy Fallon in The New York Times comes after The Tonight Show has been beaten in the ratings by rival showThe Late Show with Stephen Colbert for the last 15 weeks straight.
Jimmy confessed in the interview: “I’m a people pleaser. If there’s one bad thing on Twitter about me, it will make me upset. So, after this happened I was devastated. I didn’t mean anything by it. I was just trying to have fun.”
In what was an attempt to apologise to viewers and face his critics, Jimmy has copped even more backlash on Twitter.
Many criticis didn’t seem to have any sympathy for him.

However, others were wondering why people were still mad about the Trump interview.
@SopanDeb Maybe I'm missing the point, but Jimmy Fallon is a comedian. It's a comedy show. It ain't 60 Minutes. Why rwe still mad abt the Trump intvw?

So now people are gonna be mad at Jimmy Fallon until he attacks Trump?
Can't viewers have 1 show that isn't all lopsided politics? Just fun?— The Flipside (@flipsideloftus) May 17, 2017

The Tonight Show host may have just left it a little too long to respond to the backlash.
