Kerri-Anne admits she has an 'addictive personality'

TV icon Kerri-Anne Kennerley was famously diagnosed with breast cancer in 2012 but it seems that’s not all she’s had to battle over the years.

New Idea revealed how the star has had to deal with persistent “day-to-day discomforts – headaches, brought on by stress and overwork, stiff shoulder and dodgy knees.”

However, she does not turn to painkillers to deal with her chronic pain, she even still has a full packet of prescription painkillers in her drawer given to her after her breast cancer surgery.

“My having a slightly addictive personality, it’s probably not a great idea for me to take it,” the 63-year-old told the publication.

She also said: “They have these wonderful drugs to deal with the sort of pain you get after surgery, but you can’t afford to stay on them. They are way too good!”

There was a point in her life, prior to a knee operation, that she turned to over-the-counter pain medication just to play a round of golf.

“There’s no question when you work hard with constant 4am starts, and you do 10, 12, or even 14-hour days, you do get tired and a bit sore,” Kerri-Anne admitted.

The TV legend said that the best medicine for pain is exercise which she now regularly does to keep fit and healthy and she also said the odd massage helps too.

Keeping fit is especially important for Kerri-Anne now that she has become her husband’s sole carer.

John, 76, suffered a bad fall last year resulting in a severe spinal cord injury which has left him in a wheelchair.

“I can honestly say I would give away 50 years of this career and all of the incredible experiences and anything else I could think of just to have you [John] standing right here by my side holding my hand,” she said.

“I promise you one thing my darling, we haven’t finished yet.”
