Ellen DeGeneres reportedly bought this $9.5m estate

Ellen DeGeneres reportedly has some new digs, right next door to Oprah! Per TMZ, the talk show host has purchased a Montecito, Calif., estate that shares a property line with the former queen of the daytime talk show world for $7.2 million.

And it’s just as gorgeous as you would expect. The 5.8-acre property features two houses — the original structure, built circa 1850(!), and a second structure, built in 2006 — each around 3,000 square feet. The listing from Trulia promises that the gated compound has “modern amenities” inside.

Outside, there are views of the ocean and the mountains; grand gardens, including an olive grove; covered verandas; and, probably the thing that most stood out to DeGeneres, “a first-class equestrian facility.” Degeneres and her wife, Portia De Rossi, once owned a ranch just outside L.A. with a stable of horses.

In fact, DeGeneres enjoys buying homes and fixing them up, and she chronicled what she’s done with several different properties over the years in a 2015 coffee table book called, simply, Home. “I think I wanted to be an interior designer when I was 13,” the Ellen DeGeneres Show host explained in its pages.

The only thing standing in the way of the new homeowners enjoying such a big-ticket purchase since snapping it up in September is the fires ravaging Southern California.

On Sunday, DeGeneres shared on Twitter that another home she owned was in an area of danger. “Our house is under threat of being burned,” she wrote. “We just had to evacuate our pets. I’m praying for everyone in our community and thankful to all the incredible firefighters.”

TMZ reported that Degeneres had to flee a property in Carpinteria, Calif., part of Santa Barbara County, that she purchased for $18.6 million in October. The new place in Montecito is also located in the usually picturesque Santa Barbara County and is under threat from the blazes as well.

Fortunately, another feature of DeGeneres’s new home is kind neighbours.

“Everyone in the Montecito area is checking up on each other and helping to get people and animals to safety,” she wrote. “I’m proud to be a part of this community. I’m sending lots of love and gratitude to the fire department and sheriffs. Thank you all.”
