Craig McLachlan breaks silence on sexual assault allegations
Aussie actor Craig McLachlan has given his first public interview to deny sexual assault allegations.
In an exclusive sit down with The Sunday Telegraph, the Gold Logie winner said he will fight the claims of sexual misconduct that have been brought against him.
Three women - Erika Heynatz, Christie Whelan Browne and Angela Scundi - who performed alongside McLachlan on the Rocky Horror Show in 2014 alleged they were 'abused, harassed or assaulted' by the star.
McLachlan, 52, has vehemently denied the allegations and has said his career has been “annihilated” by the accusations.
“By God I will fight this,” he told NewsCorp, alongside his partner, Vanessa Scammell.
“And the truth, the truth will come out.”
Citing legal advice, the former Rocky Horror Show star said he could not address the specific allegations made against him.
He did go on to admit the show’s backstage culture could be lewd, but said “'Does being cheeky and naughty equate with being a bully?”
McLachlan also said there would be “hundreds and hundreds” of people that would be say “this is not the guy we know”.
“So (I feel) anger, hurt, bewilderment, but it keeps coming back to shock. How can this be,” he said.
His partner, orchestra conductor Vanessa, who he met eight years ago has remained by his side to support him.
But she said the allegations had upturned their lives.
“The havoc that has been wreaked… has been devastating,” she said.
