Jokes about the song 'Rocket Man' by Elton John come to mind, something about if you're the 500th astronaut customer you'll be waiting a "long, long time" anyone?

Moving right along, Richard Branson, the founder of Virgin Group, released the news via his blog on Monday, saying Ashton "is as thrilled as we are at the prospect of being among the first to cross the final frontier (and back!) with us and to experience the magic of space for himself."

"Ashton is joining a fast expanding group of true pioneers who are on their way to a life changing experience and a place in the history books," Branson added. "It's great to have him on board."

Before Ashton gets to go anywhere though, he'll have to undergo medical checks and three days of training which includes bonding with other passengers and staff, and also g-force familiarisation.

While there is no planned launch date as yet, tickets are reported to be setting each customer back a cool $200,000 per person.
