MADONNA SELLING NEW YORK APARTMENT FOR $23.5 MILLION
A lot has changed for Madonna since she bought her Manhattan, New York City apartment overlooking Central Park more than two decades ago. She's now a mum to four children, has been divorced, married, and divorced again, released 10 albums, and turned the big 5-0. Now, she's finally saying goodbye to the apartment that's seen her thorough the last 25 years, listing her 6,000-square-foot Upper West Side pad for a whopping $23.5 million.
Though Madge purchased a single unit back in the mid 1980s, over the years she's bought two more neighbouring apartments in the building, combining them into what is now a 6-bedroom, 8-bathroom duplex, which takes up the 5th and 6th floors of West 64th Street's prestigious Harperley Hall, according to real estate website Zillow.
A peek at the listing shows the apartment offers luxuries most Manhattanites have to forgo, like great rooms on both floors with French doors leading to outdoor "Juliet" balconies, five wood-burning fireplaces, central air conditioning (not always a given in NYC apartments), bedrooms with their own wings, and yes, those priceless park views.
The apartment was featured in a 1991 issue of Architectural Digest, and according to the article, Madonna's brother Christopher Ciccone (who later turned on her, writing a tell-all book about his sister) served as her interior designer. Ciccone stocked the kitchen with high-end stainless steel appliances, kept a set of original (circa 1915) leaded-glass doors that lead to the living room, and sound-proofed the private gym so that neighbours couldn't hear the stereo system. "Madonna likes to feel the music," Ciccone told the magazine at the time.
