Making her first talk show appearance since she and her husband, art consultant Will Kopelman, welcomed Olive on September 26, Barrymore revealed the meaning behind her baby name selection.

"I never would have guessed that would have been the name," the 37-year-old "Big Miracle" star said on Thursday's "The Ellen DeGeneres Show." "But I was reading a book with my husband. I was three months pregnant and they said your baby is the size of an olive, and that was it. We never looked back."

DeGeneres then joked that the baby could have been the size of a peanut, grape, or kidney bean, and then perhaps Barrymore could have selected one of those foods as a name.

"It could have been," Barrymore laughed, but added, "Kidney's not such a fun name."

Barrymore explained that she and Kopelman were "shopping a few [names], as people who are so blessed to get to do this do, and then once the light was shed, there was just no turning back."

The name Olive, which is a symbol of peace and victory, has another meaning for the actress as well. In 1999, Barrymore voiced the title character in the animated TV special "Olive, the Other Reindeer," about a Jack Russell Terrier who saved Christmas. And Barrymore isn't the only celebrity to name an offspring Olive. In 2007, Isla Fisher and Sacha Baron Cohen gave the moniker to their first born -- and on Thanksgiving, country singer Jake Owen welcomed his own little Olive.

As for Barrymore's little one, she's a dream says the proud mum. "She is a good baby," she told DeGeneres. "I count my lucky stars every day. She's really interactive and happy and nice to people. She's a nice person!"

When DeGeneres asked how a 10-week-old baby could be nice to people, Barrymore replied, "She is selling it. She is working it. She is so great."
