Speaking to Kyle and Jackie O on radio this morning, Beau Ryan thought he was there to promote the return of The Footy Show to TV.

But, the breakfast radio duo had other plans.

Sandilands wasn't able to pass up the opportunity to grill the former professional rugby league player on the scandal that rocked his family last year.

The 30-year-old was forced to take a three-week hiatus from his hosting duties on the show after reports surfaced about his affair with ex Hi-5 star Laurent Brant.

The pair reportedly met while they were starring together in Sydney pantomime, Aladdin and His Wondrous Lamp, with the scandal quickly making headlines when Brant's former fiancé publicly accusing her of cheating.

Asking Ryan what he was up to in Townsville ahead of The Footy Show's return, Sandilands asked, "Are you there by yourself? Are you allowed out by yourself these days?"

"I’m obviously with the guys from the show. Last year was really difficult for us. We’ve put some stuff behind us," the footballer awkwardly replied.

"I’m working really hard to be a better person, a better dad and a better husband."

Sandilands - who is no stranger to making headlines himself - then tried to comfort Ryan about the scandal.

"You are a good guy. Look, we’ve all banged a Disney star before. So it doesn’t really matter," he said.

"You’re still in the s***house. How long are you in there for? Just so you know, it’s forever. It will be brought up every argument," Kyle continued.

A struggling Ryan attempted to get the interview back on track, telling the radio hosts of his "busy work schedule" in 2015.

"Last year was really crazy, my work schedule. Channel 9 have given me a lot of time at home with the girls and that’s what I needed," he said.
