There is going to be a 'Mean Girls' musical

This is not a drill. A 'Mean Girls' musical is happening and Tina Fey has confirmed it.

“My husband, (composer) Jeff Richmond and I, (along with lyricist) Nell Benjamin, have been working on it,” Fey revealed, although she was coy on giving any specifics.

"Yes," she said. "It is still happening. It's only... years away," she joked.

Unconfirmed rumours had been going round for some time over the idea of a stage show, but Fey was forced to give a categorical answer when quizzed if, regardless of people working on it, it’d actually be going ahead.

“Yes, yes, it’s happening!” she stated.

Earlier in the week, when the Whiskey Tango Foxtrot star stopped by the Howard Stern show to promote her new film, she revealed that she had thought of a Mean Girls sequel.

"I don’t know why I didn’t just try to do Mean Girls 2," she said. "Everyone does it."
