Harrison Ford's surprising advice for the new Han Solo: 'Don't do it'

In his typical curmudgeonly way, the 73-year-old who returned to the part in last year’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens simply told them: "Don’t do it."

Making a surprise appearance on Ellen DeGeneres’s US talk show (via Entertainment Weekly), Ford said when asked if he had any advice for the actors: "Don’t do it. First it seems like everything’s going swimmingly, and you put in 25, 30 years, and then they just let you go.

"And they show you the door and say, ‘We’re done with you, thanks very much.'"

It’s always hard to tell how serious Ford is being, but his relationship with the character has been rocky to say the least.

A Star Wars spin-off prequel starring a young Han Solo is currently in the early stages of pre-production, with the hunt for a new Solo reportedly down to three actors.

Directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (21 Jump Street, The Lego Movie) have supposedly whittled their long-list down to Taron Egerton, Jack Reynor and Alden Ehrenreich.

It’s hard to imagine any one of them will heed Ford’s advice if the offer comes in from LucasFilm. Lord and Miller’s Star Wars spin-off is set for release on 25 May, 2018.
